| I was putting together one of those 'art summary' memes (where you select one piece from each month), and looking at the things I'd accomplished in 2013 (and all the things I'd failed to accomplish) got me thinking about this. What are your artistic goals for 2014? - here's some of mine:
- make illustrations with more complex compositions and detailed backgrounds. - practise drawing non-humanoid subjects; include them in illustrations. - make at least one minicomic (in addition to updating my main comic). - GOOD CHARACTER REFERENCES. my theory is that the more people you tell about this sort of thing, the more likely you are to do it ;>

| Ooh good idea! I wish I could fill out one of those summary memes. Unfortunately I probably wouldn't have enough pieces to do it. ><;;; So I guess my number one would be...
- To finish more pieces (as in, not just start and stop halfway like I usually do, but to actually finish!)
And also - To do more speed painting - To finish character designs - To start at least one of my own stories
And probably to finish the projects I started last year. Or at least get closer to finishing them. ><;

| I did a summary in my blog about all the art techniques I tried out in 2013. Resolving to buckle down on one project or practice an approach is good, but I think you have to be flexible and look at the things you had NO IDEA were going to come into your life and be proud of those, too. So yeah, looking forward to finishing up this arc of Sombulus, figuring out what I'm going to do next, and getting it printed so I can start going to conventions! | |

| yeah, I made very few big or ambitious pieces in 2013, but the experimentation I did instead was interesting and fun-- it's healthy to have a balance of both. (doing ATCs was one of my highlights, so I'm really glad you started that delphina!) And selini, you should probably examine why you're not finishing the WIPs; if it's because you reach a point where working on them becomes tedious and unenjoyable, then you should revise your techniques and work methods until you come up with something that works for you. (I mention this because it took me a while to get there, both with traditional and digital... not everyone works the same.) quietly points out that character design topic we have lying around... | |

| This year I want to improve my digital painting I want to do a lot more full illustrations and I want to incorporate more action poses into my art. This being said I really need to improve on anatomy so my main focus this year is to work on anatomy portions and foreshortening! Another thing I noticed from previous years is that I take a long time to do art! I want to work on improving my speed. And do a lot more speed painting - rather than focusing on detail, i want to be able to paint fast and efficiently, without worrying about details but still being able to get the point across to the viewer. i have a very hard time doing this, i don't know if its because i cant help but perfect the paintings by finishing an intricate castle in the background, - but i want to be able to paint those unnecessary details quickly! gah! Also I did one of those improvement memes here - just cuz xD | |

| Dang, aaawhyme, 2013 was a pretty dramatic year of improvements! The lighting in those environments is looking great. This year I didn't do as much super-finished stuff as in previous years... I used to do a Big Thing each month (or at least attempt it), but that sort of fell by the wayside this year. I did do a couple of things I'd like to continue-- a lot of speedpainting (though ugh the newest one is so boring aahh), and a bunch of acrylic landscape paintings (top 4 posts are from this year, though below that is older work). I hope to keep going with both of those things! So I guess my goals for 2014 are... -Further advance the plot in Chirault (make at least 100 pages) -Make more speedpaints-- maybe another challenge to do 1 each day for a month -Do more acrylic landscapes, follow through with taking them to shows -Make more narrative pieces, from doodles to finished illustrations-- the more of the story/characters is shown in a single image, the better (Aso I did one of the 2013 art summary memes too! I did one of those improvement memes back in 2009 as well, and updated it last year though I note I forgot to update the date at the top-- maybe I'll update it again this year, but I guess if I forget I can always do it later...) | |

| I love looking at those art summary memes. I hope one day I'll actually enough art to do one of those myself. XD;
My art-related goal is pretty simple. I want to draw more. Lately I spend barely any time at it with life always getting in the way... So I want to go back to basics. I have a ton of empty sketchbooks, so my goal is to fill those. I'm thinking approximately one page a day seems reasonable for now. There are so many things I want to practice drawing but always put off, so I'll fill those pages with lots of practice and lots of different subjects. ^^
Good luck to everyone with their goals!

| My goals this year will be to improve the way I draw anatomy. I've always found anatomy difficult, but arms, hands, and feet are what I have the most trouble with. Along this line, I wish to greatly improve my lineart. I have trouble creating uniform lines in my sketches and when I try hard, my concentration causes the lines to become messy. Lineart is probably my biggest trouble out of the two.
On the other hand, I want to work with warmer tones and the male body more this year. My painting improves each time I use CS6, so I believe I won't be too picky with the colour anymore.
Oh, and another thing would be to actually stick with projects instead of leaving them as WIPs for months on end.

| My goal is to study more art history and make sure I know official terms for different techniques/mediums and safety regulations and such. I have to take the Praxis II exam for art at some point this year and I feel like I don't know nearly enough. If I don't pass it I won't be able to do an internship next year. u-u | |

Have you tried different tools for inking linearts? This is a problem I've had in the past; I worked through it by trying different techniques until I found one that played to my strengths.

| @Dusk: Yeah, I've thought about it a lot. >< I have been trying to explore different techniques (mostly with digital inking and coloring), but I think one of my main problems is that I have this mental block that makes me feel like everything I'm working on is just not good enough, or it should be looking better than it is, or I can't finish because I'll mess it up. Lately it seems the only way I can get art done is by forcing myself to, which doesn't leave me with a very good feeling. x.x I've been trying to get over it... but sometimes I'm not sure what to do. @.@
Anyway, sorry, small rant. XD
Oh yeah, the character design topic. I think I do have a design that I want to post there. ^^
Also, I wish everyone luck on their goals this year, too.

I constantly switch-up my technique, but I never have changed the brush. Good plan, I'll try that next time!
