| Well, considering that I know for sure at least three of us here have our own webcomics - it might be beneficial to also have a topic on webcomics? XD Let's aaall share and gossip about the awesome that is webcomics!! Uhhm to begin, I have two webcomics of my own: http://caf.smackjeeves.com/ - Chester and Ferdie. My very first webcomic that I started in high school and is 'technically' finished from what I initially planned to do for it but I ended up being unable to let go and am still coming up with more stories to update for it XD! In a nutshell its a story about a Lynx and a Bat and how they become an oddball pair of friends. And http://sky665.deviantart.com/gallery/26849503 - Jackie's Story. Which.. didn't actually start off at all to be a serious webcomic but rather an "inbetween project" that I also ended up getting way too carried away with heeeh! Nutshell description for Jackie would be.. about a little alien girl Jackie who misses her dearly departed brother and gets wrapped up into something she hopes will bring him back from the dead..! Yes! --- --- Anyways THERE'S THAT what I really wanted to get to was the webcomics I love and follow!! And to share with them all for you to all maybe also discover and perhaps fall in love with as well hehe! Webcomics I Follow:http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/ - Unsounded My all time favorite and newly discovered webcomic aahh!! It updates three times a week and the art is amazingly detailed and the story is amazing and its about attack zombies and mean little thieving girls and my description could never give it justice just give it a loook!! http://www.straysonline.com/ Strays Another favorite webcomic of mine! Its about a little wolf girl pup who misses her brother and runs into a bounty hunter, starts following him around and eventually becomes friiends! http://www.avasdemon.com/ - Ava's Demon About a girl named Ava, and her demon. Haha! Really I can't think much else to say about it other than that- and how the art is soooooo amazing and colorful and each panel is like an individual painting filled with lovely color schemes aah http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/ - Cucumber's Quest a funny and cute little comic about a bunny boy named Cucumber and his hero quest he'd rather not be partaking in! Ahh the art is also very delicious in this comic and.. Alright, I think I'm done gushing about webcomics.. FOR NOW XD This first post seems long enough haha! To end with: Do you make a webcomic? Do you want to? What webcomics do you follow? Etc! Let's goo! :3 | |

| UMMMM I follow way too many to list. There are a bunch on my links page and those are just my favourites; there are others I've read and still poke occasionally or plan to read, and some that I really liked but don't link to because they died. I'm weird about how I check my comics though; I prefer to ignore them for a while then archive-dive them, and will only be checking one or two update-to-update at any given time. (My current F5-mash obsession is Spindrift.) | |

| Oh gosh! Minor Acts of Heroism! Yess! I forgot to add that into my favoritees list hehe! XD And yeah I just stopped with my favorites because I honestly do have like ... over 30 maybe in my bookmarks folder that I follow. But a lot of them I don't really like anymore and just keep up with them because I've already read so much of it - and I'm waiting for my other webcomics to update~
Ahh man your links page is full of ones I've never heard about though - just when you think you've got a lot of webcomics under your belt there is always MORE!! XD!

| So cool! Can't wait to check out all these links when I get time. I used to read a lot of webcomics but haven't gotten into any in quite some time. Duskglass, I'm the same way when it comes to checking comics. Especially if it is a story driven-comic. I dunno, just more fun for me that way! Selini and I have a collaboration comic project in the works, sorta... it's kinda sad because we have this whole story we've been planning for years and still yet to start the actual comic. xD; It is pretty in depth. But one day we'll get to it, hehe. Would be a shame to spend so much time planning something yet never actually bringing it to life. | |

At least I have many more to explore now heh!
And aahh Kynale, I hope you guys start up on that webcomic of yours soon! XD Sometimes you just need to JUMP RIGHT OUT THERE and just.. work on it! Share it with the world 8'3

| lololol Uhhh I have a webcomic hurrrrr..... and I also got a ton of comics on my links page what I read. Special mention for comics not already brought up in this thread: Shadoweyes, the comic by industry veteran Ross Campbell which is really neat and yet also super obscure for some reason... Bird Boy, which is not very long yet and has a very erratic updating schedule but which is beautiful and totally worth checking out anyway. Lackadaisy isn't on here yet??? Zebra Girl starts off as a humour strip but eventually evolves into something much more than that (it's got a great dry sense of humour despite the increasingly dark territory the subject matter treads into). Archipelago: I.... I just have too many feelings about this one ;A; FEELINGS ahgh not coherent enough for these synopses (it's bedtime ;A; ), and every time I check back to add another it's like WAIT BUT I ALSO LOVE THIS OTHER ONE A LOT-- so I gotta stop here with the specific links, but basically I recommend all the crap on my links page. (also I need to add Strays already, I've been meaning to for months and I keep forgetting) .....I am an obsessive site-checker.... I'll check the websites for comics I really like repeatedly in case they've updated, occasionally even on days I know they haven't D': It's a bit lame. Currently doing it with Unsounded and SpinDrift. ALSO SO EXCITED TO GET UNSOUNDED IN PRINT dskfghsoidflksdkjsdhf I was so happy to see that Kickstarter get announced there was no way I could NOT back it. | |

| So awesome that you guys have webcomics. 8D I'll definitely make a note to check them out.
And a lot of the webcomics I've gotten into are actually ones I stumbled upon via Dusk's site. XD Though I feel bad because I left off on most of them... I desperately need to catch up. ><; Though I guess on the plus side, I have plenty to read. XD
Homestuck I've been trying to get into for the longest time, but I'm *still* trying to get past the beginning. /shot I keep hearing about the characters and how good the story gets later on, so I really want to get past it. XD;;; (I blame it on my extremely short attention span)
And yes, so true. Me and Ky have been planning ours for sooo long. XD It would be good to just jump in and do it. I can't wait to start, but at the same time I'm so nervous. XD But yes, someday...

| Yess yess goood! Many more webcomics for me to follow now heeeeh I'm so glad I made this post- I've already added Spindrift and Bird Boy under my belt of comics to follow close attention to~! XD
And oh man! BECAUSE of the kickstarter I think I fooound Unsounded and then I fell sooo in love sooooo fast that I just had to also fund that starter and get me a comic maan! I hope one day she does cons and I can get it signed by her heheh!
I've got Lackadaisy and The Meek in print and signed! Those too - are also special webcomics of mine I follow, just didn't post yet because I think they're pretty well known already~
And hoo'boy homestuck yeaah..! For me- I just like homestuck for the fun character designs/interactions/nice fanarts people make of them. The story is.. just way over my head and I just let it go past and wait for my favorite characters to come back into view and do something fun heh!

| Seconding the Archipelago rec! (Don't be put off by the early art; it's one of the best webcomics I read especially in terms of character development and worldbuilding. C: ) I'm terrible at summaries, so here's the one the creator has posted: - Quote :
- Over 1000 pages worth of crazy princes, were-sharks, evil undead cyborg pirates, and clockwork submarines.
I'll also give a shout-out to Namesake, which is about fairytales and storytelling and I'm describing it horribly. (Badass snarky female leads? What else are you waiting for?) I.... don't really rec Homestuck to people? I really like it myself and a lot of my friends do too but it's definitely not for everyone... not to mention there are some SINGLE PAGES that can take probably as much as an hour to 'read', so it's quite a massive undertaking to read the whole thing. (But regardless of what you think of the comic, everyone should check out the soundtrack!)

| Oooh yes! Homestuck has a really nice soundtrack! I think its really what makes the flash parts so enjoyable~ Mmman! I've caught up with so many new webcomics today now! XD My favorite additions are Icarus, The Forgotten Order, Bird Boy, and Spindrift~! Lets seee! I guess I'll start recommending a few I haven't seen mentioned yet or in the link pages: http://dovecotecrest.com/ - Dovecote Crest is a really nice comic about some kids who do civil war reenactments~ It's been on hiatus off and on for a loong while though aahh not sure if its a good recommend for ACTIVE webcomic- but, still a good read for whats there? :3 http://earthsongsaga.com/ - Eathsong Saga is actually one of the first webcomics I got into and.. one of those "Been with it so long just stay with it" XD It's not my typical taste in comics anymore, but.. well it's still nice! http://boxerhockey.fireball20xl.com/ - Ahh has Boxerhockey been mentioned yet? XD It's one of those popular ones. Tends to be a more gag-based comic for the most part, but its starting to get more into stoooory! http://shipwreckplanet.com/?webcomic_post=2011-06-25 - Over The Wall is the most recent (Besides all these comics I've found today XD) Webcomic I've started following. Really enjoying it so far, theres some other comics on their site as well but I haven't looked into them yet http://battlepug.com/ - Battlepug, basically.. what you'd expect from the title XD http://www.sisterclaire.com/ - Sister Claire "Pregnant Nun, Oh my!" A pretty cute comic about well.. a pregnant nun and.. cats, in a nutshell XD http://www.remindblog.com/ - ReMind a super fancy illustrated webcomic about lizard people~ http://nnewts.com/ - More lizard- no wait, these ones are Newts! XD From the creator of the Earthworm Joe. http://www.drunkduck.com/Gore/5327095/ - Gore, updates reaaaaally slowly but every page is colored so nice aahh that its worth the wait~! And last ones I'll mention is Hemlock http://hemlock.smackjeeves.com/comics/893745/0-00/ and http://phantomland.smackjeeves.com/comics/1423096/01-01/ Phantomland! I'm.... really bad with descriptions for these things XD But I think just mentioning the comics themselves I've spammed enough for tonight, and the story usually speaks for itself anyways. | |

| Hahaha I really enjoy Homestuck but yeah, I agree with Dusk that it's not for everybody. Another couple webcomics I'd like to link to: Prague Race, which I heard of only recently but which has a really neat visual style... A Red-Tail's Dream: the red-tail in this one is a fox, not a hawk, which occasionally trips me up still (too big of a bird geek to have that not be the first animal I think of); the story is a really neat sort of spiritual journey through a whole bunch of increasingly dangerous dream-like worlds, with the main character's dog Ville changing shape in each one-- the story is great, and the art is beautiful. (Both of these comics are by creators whose first language is not English, so there are a few funny turns of phrase or grammatical errors in there (along with some fun and different sound effects), but personally I don't mind and still recommend them both). | |

| Oh man, I accidentally fell down memory lane and was thinking about the days when the internet was still new. And I was just a baby Sky playing on neopets and stuff...
And then I remember the WEBCOMICS I use to read back then! XD I never realized I've been following webcomics since I even recognized them as a thing called webcomics. To me they were just like.. these online comics that were sooooo cooooool and I like copied them and was inspired by them like crazy haha..
They were so silly too, heheh!
One was one about Wolves called Dakota's Ridge, which I actually remembered a long while ago enough to figure out what the name of it was and found out that it's still all uploaded on a photobucket account! XD
The other one was a pokemon fancomic.. that.. I sadly can't remember the name of ;n; I can only remember that it use to be hosted by those yahoo geocity type website things.. it had Mewtwo who I think was like the main character? .. and crud I can ALMOST remember the artist penpal name!
It was like Depeli.. Depli.. Depali... Depahdaldasooomething!!
Siigh! It's not enough clues I guess to find it on google searches though gaah XD I'm sure the website doesn't exsist anymore- but I think I remember the last time I checked the site I found the artist's deviant art account.. I ..don't think I added them to my watch list either though ffhgfhsahh
Alright- I just wanted someplace to ramble about these memories of mine haha. Do you guys remember the first webcomics you started to read??

| Lackadaisy! It was before I had any idea that webcomics were a Thing. My friend showed me some of the silly one-shot pages and concept art and I thought it was really cute so I started reading it. (And I still do read it!) after that.... when I started getting into webcomics I think the first ones were Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name and The Meek? but I was reading a lot of new comics really quickly at that point (especially since Dershing Helmer used to do a weekly comic rec in their artist comments and I regularly scoured links pages for new reading material). | |

| Ohhhhh first webcomics. I am not sharing the actual first webcomic I ever read because it is awful and will burn your eyes out of their sockets (and possibly cause everyone to lose all respect for me forever). I think the first webcomic I read that showed me webcomics could be more than trite self-indulgent poop was a comic called Terinu... I really liked it (and it seems to be starting up again, which pleases me), followed by Girl Genius, followed by Lackadaisy. | |

| Trite self-indulgence...if I ever do make my comic that's what it's going to be. That sounds delightful. I sometimes take a look at Webtoon Live which is a site that translates korean comics. My favorite was a college romance story called Cheese in the trap but it's not on the website anymore since the artist requested the comic not be hosted outside the original website. So now another translation group makes a code that actually places translations over the images on the original korean site, naver. Also mentioning keiiii's comic Haru-Sari because I love her, she's one of the nicest people I've met and is an amazing artist. About bonds...I do love good strong bonds but don't care if they are platonic or not. Both are yummy. | |

I forgot to mention the part where it was also a masturbatory fantasy whose characters were more like props and which incorporated all kinds of incredibly problematic themes without acknowledgement or while outright trying to portray them as positive (or at least 'cute'). It's a little less delightful then <_< Trite self-indulgence in itself doesn't necessarily always equate to terrible, it's true. XD I guess I was trying to moderate my own words. Dang I haven't kept up with Haru-Sari in ages! I should go check it out again. I think it stopped updating for awhile?

| Trite self indulgence is usually best for the creator alone. You'll notice I left out the poop part. The way you describe it makes it sound hilarious actually. I read every comic in every genre I come across so I probably would not judge anyone harshly on anything they read or write. The only time I have trouble with comics to the point I stop reading is when they do not make sense at all so my mind can't grasp what is happening. Or if it's a really sad tragedy sometimes I just can't handle it and have to stop. I need to stop reading and spend more time drawing, boo. I have not seen keiiii post anything in a while which makes me feel a little sad. I know she posted on her deviant that she had injured her hands so I've been hoping she is ok. It seems like she is pretty busy too from what she posted there and has been feeling worried about her art which makes me sad. I want her to fly freely. | |

Hey now, reading lots of comics is one of the best ways to learn how to make good comics! (In fact, it's often obvious when a creator hasn't read a lot of comics before beginning theirs... and how they handle certain conventions can sometimes say a lot about what style of comic they prefer reading.) But having read a lot of comics (both good and bad) will help you immensely once you do start yours-- even if you don't think about it consciously, you're developing an understanding of what works and what doesn't. ...But you're also right that the next step is to just start drawing! It is possible to plan too much-- it's better to start a comic and realise you weren't ready than to keep putting it off because you're convinced you're not.

If you're into epic world-building stories and something akin to JRR Tolkien, you can't go wrong with this guy! http://rice-boy.com/And Gunnerkrigg Court! Been following it for years and I have yet to be disappointed! http://gunnerkrigg.com/index2.phpSomeone already mentioned Hemlock, which is another great comic. It is possible to plan too much-- it's better to start a comic and realise you weren't ready than to keep putting it off because you're convinced you're not. ^^^This this this this this^^^ If you keep putting it off until you're 'ready', you never will be, because it's pretty much impossible to ever hit the peak of your artistic skill; you'll just keep putting it off indefinitely, because no one ever stops improving until they stop wanting to (and at that point you probably would have lost the drive to make a comic, or you'll be working for Marvel drawing other people's stuff). Might as well start it while you're still feeling the urge! You will improve over the course of doing your first comic, and you will probably end up dissatisfied with the first bunch of pages, but that's okay (and will happen no matter when you start, unless you only plan to illustrate other peoples' stories for pay and maintain a detached attitude towards them). You a) don't need to put it online if you're really unhappy with it, and b) aren't accountable to anyone even after you do, and you can go back and rework and rewrite as much as you want at any time. It's your creation, and the only person who will make it happen (or not) is you. Also, I shall second the recommendation for Evan Dahm (Rice-boy was one of the first comics I added to my links page, and it will never ever come off) and Gunnerkrigg... amazing stuff.
