I just thumbnailed out a dramatic scene for one of my stories and oh man its so satisfying story boarding out those sort of scenes. Especially once you finally figured out a cool way to do it and its all like within the moment still like YESS Muuuust draw this out and not forgeet!

So now I'm still all feeling all good about that and wanted some place to blab about that haha B'D

How are all you guys doings? Christmas is almost here...!!

Except mine are all drawn out on comic pages now XD As soon as November (and nanowrimo) ended it's like some sort of giant rubber band holding me back from comic-making has snapped, and now I am making up for a month's worth of not making comics by doing ALL OF THE PAGES (and also all of the freaky concept art).

The page that goes up next Monday is one of my favourites to date ;3; I can't wait til it's up aaahhhh. Dramatic scenes are the best!

I'm starting to think maybe I should use the month of December to prepare Chirault for printing. I've always wanted to get printed volumes of it, and I might be getting a table at Toronto Comicon in March (it's a super-tiny little event, but it seems like a good deadline to shoot for and a good excuse to have new books on hand)..... I just have to do a lot of work to get the pages ready for print, which I've been procrastinating on like crazy. Ugh lettering... the bane of my existence!!

Heeeh yes I know what you mean! XD Making comics ready for print isn't always that hard but just soo.. teeedious and long!

I am for sure interested in some Chirault comics though for when you do finally get them printed~!

And in other random general chat blabbers I justreceived one of the comishes I ordered today and ohmygosh- I'm starting to get really addicted to this super giddy feeling that is seeing your brain babies drawn out by such great artists aaahh X'D

It's like, all the fun parts are already done, and what's left are the mind-numbing bits that make you wonder why you ever decided to get into this comic-making thing 8C

555 is a lot of pages to re-letter and do small art corrections on....

Haha yeah XD Thats how I feel sometimes even when I'm working on my actual comic itself! It's like MAN I already did the fun figuring out how this scene will go bit - why can't the the comic outline itself now! P:<

Also you could maybe break that 555 into smaller parts? Part 1, 2, 3+ even~
Then you'd only have to edit around 100 pages depending on how long you want each part! And can take breaks before you're ready for the next parts XD

That's how I like to do it at least. (That, and I feel like I'm not spending as much money on a lot of smaller purchases of printing out comics than one really big one.. heeeh!)



And ahhhhwhoa!! 8'O! That drawing is beeaautifuul!! And in the MAIL you said!? Is it possibly really made out of cut-out-paper and is not a digital illusion!?

Well, I was thinking about how to divvy it up recently... trying to think of good places to cut for a new volume and stuff. I'm gonna try for somewhere in the 120-150 page per volume range, though some may end up longer than that... (volume 3 might end up being like 200 pages, and volume 1 risks being fairly short and might need some padding to keep it from being too much shorter than the others if I go that route).

It's still a lot of pages to re-letter 8C


Also YES it is made of real cut paper (several different kinds of paper, meticulously hand-cut with an x-acto blade)! It is so gorgeous, the artist is a friend of mine from school and she's been doing these for a couple years now, they all come out so pretty.... ;3;

Ahhh! In that case you could maybe try to make it one of those situations in which each volume is a little bit bigger than the last? XD Then when they set 'em up on the shelf they look like they're growing bigger over time haha.

But then you get the problem of figuring out how to make sure the next volume is going to be always a bit bigger~

You've maybe heard of her/seen her art before XD But its so awe-inspiring!

I have seen Brit's work before, it's stunning! (Actually I think it was partly through this same friend XD) Her style is beautiful, and the papercraft she does is pretty much flawless. :'> It makes me wish I could do more tactile arts and crafty things, but.... welp.

(I don't think making successive volumes longer will be THAT much of a problem <_< My story arcs have been gradually expanding in average length/pagecount for awhile now...)

haha........ I'm kind of glad I don't plan to go to print anytime soon with mine xD;; (and unless there is a lot of demand and some innovation that makes colour printing much cheaper, I probably never will)

How's everyone been doing?

yes I know :'C (I had a couple Q&A replies but I neglected to scan them before going out of town...)

I've been mostly hanging out at the spiderforest forum actually, since at the moment it's marginally more active than all the other forums I'm a member on <_<
...speaking of which, anyone here interested in ATC swaps? I guess most people on here seem pretty digital-oriented, but for anyone who likes traditional it could be fun to do a swap :> (also I'm almost done all my cards for people on SF and DO ALL OF THE TRADES)

...whatever happened to all those other games, like the character above you? maybe everyone just... got too busy for forums? (though the old forum tended to go really quiet around the off-season too...)

Yeah maybe everyone is just too busy, and since most of the boards on here seem to be like "draw this" sort of thing with them - no one wants to do 'em cause no tiiime for 'em!

So we need more just talking and typing ones, maybe then people will come back!

How do ATC swaps work? If they're suppose to be traditional I would feel bad who ever swapped with me, since all my traditional things are just messsssses XD

Well they... sorta got to be traditional I assume, because the point is to trade the physical cards! (It's basically just an art trade with set dimensions; the participants mail each other the finished artwork... or swap in person I guess, but all the ones I've set up were over the net, with people outside my area...) Here's the wiki page if anyone's interested! Though yeah anyone who works pretty much digital only would have a hard time of these xD;;

Anyway that's the tough thing about being an art-oriented forum I guess... People stop having art time and it goes silent haha (there's some text topics too but the art ones seem to be by far the most popular?)

I thought about making a crafts topic at one point but then I thought I'd be the only one to use it so I never did xD;;

...and well we're getting to mid september, and the SS planning usually starts in october, so I imagine people will start trickling back soonish!

Super excited for SS season too. I was very tempted to go ahead and post the Participants thread for this year, but I figure it might still be a bit early. ^^; I did however go through the info threads and update with tentative dates for this year.

The ATC thing sounds really cool! I love getting physical mail so this sounds really appealing to me. I love having penpals too. x3

I want to try and bring some activity back into those threads too... I've had some art struggles lately though, maybe I'll post in that art help thread...

Just dropping in to say I AM TOTALLY COOL WITH DOING ATC TRADES they are great and I love them. 8D

Naww don't feel bad for being inactive! You can't help being busy and real life stuff comes before the internet C:

And yeah there's a lot of good threads! I know with the character above topic it sorta started being just me, thane and sky, so I sort of decided to take a break from it until it started expanding again. xD;; ...I feel like that's the case with a lot of these topics, once they reach a certain level of inactivity they become less appealing to post in.

I plan on posting in that thread. I swear. I know I've said that before but I mean it. xD; I don't blame you guys for stopping when it's the same people over and over. 

I'm hoping as we start getting into gear for SS season, we'll bring some new activity into those threads too.

Yeah I'm planning to advertise the event on my tumblr/DA (and the spiderforest forum) as soon as the topic's up!

Agreed, post as much as you want! Nobody's ever going to mind, and it's better than no activity at all. ^^;

And thanks guys, that would be so awesome if you could advertise! I'm not sure yet when I'll post the topic. I agree if I put it too early, people are more likely to forget and disappear before we start. So maybe I'll try early October.
